Our Mission:
To improve the health of our residents by facilitating a community-wide electronic network.
WHO IS THE GULF COAST HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGE?
The Gulf Coast HIE is the local Manatee/Sarasota HIE managed by local healthcare providers. It has a not-for-profit charter and is a partner of the Manatee & Charlotte County Medical Societies with the objective of connecting the local healthcare community and helping the community maintain control of its information.
The goal of the Gulf Coast HIE is to facilitate a trusted framework for all healthcare providers to communicate with each other via electronic means. The secure, HIPAA-compliant, web-based portal allows credentialed healthcare providers to share patient records: including clinical information, lab results, EKG and MRI reports, X-rays, and “more legible” doctors’ notes. The HIE interfaces with EMRs and other practice management software.
Because it is not operated by business, insurance, or government, no third-party or financial interests are involved and the information is as safe and secure as banking records. Physicians control the data in the HIE.
While most physicians will benefit from easy access to clinical data, their staff will benefit from the communications tools built into the software: a referral module, secure messaging (HIPAA-compliant), and demographic and clinical data exchange which allows for interfaced offices to pull information in patients’ charts.
